What We Believe

We believe in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and in Jesus Christ as the only means of salvation.  Each person of the Trinity is fully God, possessing all the attributes of deity, and yet they are not three gods but one God. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are co-equal and co-eternal, and they work together in perfect unity and harmony. This doctrine is based on biblical passages such as Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14, and 1 John 5:7.

We believe our salvation is a gift from God that is received by faith alone in the incarnate Son of God, and God Himself Jesus Christ, and that good works are seen as a natural result of that salvation rather than a means of achieving it. These beliefs are based on the idea that human beings are inherently sinful from birth and can only be made righteous through the grace of God, which is received through faith in Jesus Christ.  These doctrines are based on biblical passages such as Ephesians 2:8-9, Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 51:5, and Romans 3:21-24.

We believe that God works through “means” which are the Holy Word and Sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper) granting therein the gift of the Holy Spirit, producing faith in those who hear the Gospel.  Therefore, we believe that God’s grace is offered, delivered, and sealed through holy baptism by the Word of God connected to water and should be given to all, including children.  We also believe that in the Lord’s Supper Christ Jesus’ very body and blood are given “in, with, and under” the bread and wine for “the forgiveness of sins.”  (Real Presence)  These beliefs are based on biblical passages such as Romans 1:16, Romans 10:17, Matthew 29:19, 1 Peter 3:21, and Matthew 26:26-29, Mark 14:22-25, Luke 22:19-20, and 1 Corinthians 11:23-29

We believe that there is One, Holy Christian Church which is the assembly of all believers among whom the Gospel is purely preached and the holy sacraments (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper) are administered according to the Gospel. And we believe that God establishes and has determined that assemblies of believers will be gathered together in congregations (or combinations of congregations) that the Gospel and the Sacraments may continue among people until the end of time.  These beliefs are based on biblical passages such as Ephesians 4:4-5, Galatians 3:14b, Luke 17:20-21, and Matthew 16:16-19.
